Orchard Planting and Park Safety Update...
Hunting Park United
Dear Friends,
Hunting Park Orchard Planting

This Saturday is going to be a great day to enjoy Hunting Park!  The second phase of the Hunting Park orchard planting begins at 9am and the Hunting Park tree giveaway begins at noon.  Come out to the Hunting Park Community Garden (Northwest corner of the park) for a fun spring day of planting, music, friends, and food!

Park Safety Update

Hunting Park United is working with 25th Police District, Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez, Fairmount Park Conservancy, and Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation to facilitate dialog around park safety and order.  Last fall, this group got together for an evening walk through of the park to look at safety concerns:

  • Several of the large area lights were identified as in need of repair
  • The need for signs posting park rules was also identified.

Lights

Lights! As of this week, all but one of the large light systems are fully functional.  Repairs will finish soon on the last one which had been damaged during other park improvements.

This is a significant accomplishment and Hunting Park United wishes to recognize and thank the dedicated staff at Philadelphia Parks and Recreation for their hard work maintaining our park.

Signs

Furthermore, 26 signs have been posted throughout the park stating the rules of the park.

Please take note of the park rules.

Hunting Park is one of the most diverse neighborhoods of Philadelphia and our park is a vibrant reflection of our community.  We want to be a place where all feel safe and welcome.

We each have a role to play in cultivating a safe and welcoming environment in our increasingly popular park.  The newly posted signs are intended to help facilitate that process by raising awareness of the rules governing all parks in Philadelphia and, specifically, Hunting Park.

If you have a concern or if you would like to be included in future meetings about park safety, please contact us.

Website Update

In the last month, HuntingPark.org has had more than 400 unique visitors and more than 2,000 page views.  Our emails are seen by more than 500 people with an interest in the Hunting Park community.  If you have an event or information to promote in Hunting Park, let us help you get the word out.

Please click here to share your events with the Hunting Park community via the calendar and these emails.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

P.S. - Though not specifically listed on the new signs, it is indeed against park rules to set up a carnival without permission!
